AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State pulled out a 7-6 victory over West Georgia in 11 innings Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field.
ASU junior righthander Chase Johnston pitched five innings, surrendering just one hit in relief of starter Josh Barks. Junior righty Wilson Taylor came in the 11th inning to shut down the Wolves and earned the win.
West Georgia took an early lead, jumping ahead 4-0 in the first inning and scoring six runs over the first three innings. The Jaguar pitching staff surrendered just two hits the remainder of the game.
ASU senior Andy Onufrak booked three hits, including an 11th-inning single. Freshman Menelik Vereen drove in Onufrak with the game-winning single through the left side of the infield.
Jags' junior Caleb Saggus contributed three hits with two stolen bases. Sophomore Curtis Parker and Vereen each added an RBI.
ASU is back in action tomorrow to finish the series in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m., at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
