DUE WEST, S.C. -- Augusta State swept a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon from Erskine at the EC Softball Complex.
With the victories, the Jaguars registered their fourth and fifth straight wins and improved to 10-3 on the season.
ASU took the opener 6-3 with five runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Kacee Camp went 2-for-3 with three RBI with a solo home run. Heather Hughes slapped a two-run homer while Laura Brown went 2-for-3.
Brown (4-0) earned the win with 3.2 innings of relief of starter Emily Headrick. Brown allowed two hits and two runs with a strikeout and two walks. Headrick was charged with an earned run in 3.1 innings, tallying three strikeouts and four walks.
ASU's Kaitlin Harris broke a 1-all tie in game two with an RBI-double in the seventh inning to plate Kristen Jones with the go-ahead run. Harris and Jones went 2-for-3 and Camp added an RBI-single in the third.
The Jags, who out-hit the Flying Fleet 15-7 in the twinbill, got a complete-game effort from Hughes (3-1). The junior righthander surrendered just four hits and an earned run with a strikeout and a walk.
ASU heads to Salisbury, N.C., on Friday, Feb. 25 for the Catawba Invitational at Salisbury Community Park. The Jags take on tourney host Catawba at 4:00 p.m., and face Glenville State at 6:00 p.m.
