AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader from No.1 Georgia College. The Jags defeated the Bobcats 10-1 in game one and took a 10-9 victory in game two.
The Jags, who are 11-12 overall and 5-3 in league play, opened the day with a 10-1 victory over the Bobcats who are 17-5 overall and 3-2 in league play. Sophomore Scott Shipman earned the win, pitching a complete game and surrendering just one run.
In game two, the Bobcats took a 9-6 lead into the ninth inning, when senior Casey Hanrahan blasted a three run triple to tie the game. A wild pitch allowed Hanrahan to plate the game winning run.
Junior Caleb Saggus lead the Jags offensively with five hits on the day and three steals. Seniors Andy Onufrak and Alex Walker each had three hits. Senior Tristan Toorie booked three hits with four RBI, while Hanrahan contributed two hits with three RBI.
Freshman pitcher Matt Blume earned the ninth inning win over the Bobcats.
The series will continue Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
