AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State swept a non-conference doubleheader from West Georgia Tuesday afternoon at Jaguar Field.
With the pair of victories, the Jaguars improved to 22-8 on the season while the Wolves dropped to 11-13.
ASU claimed an 8-0 win in five innings in the first game behind three RBI from Kacey Sims and Jessica Thornton. Jags' starter Heather Hughes (7-4) allowed only hit in 4.0 innings and notched three strikeouts. Laura Brown closed out the game in the fifth. Thornton jacked a two-run homer in the third inning and Sims laced a two-run double in the fourth.
In game two, ASU starter Emily Headrick improved to 10-2 on the season, striking out five in 6.0 innings and yielding just three hits. Junior rightfielder Kristen Jones smacked a solo homer and Thornton scored a pair of runs.
The Jags travel to Florence, S.C., on Wednesday to take on Francis Marion in a PBC doubleheader at 2:00 p.m., before returning home to host Georgia Southwestern and Columbus State in a pair of league twinbills on Saturday and Sunday. Game time Saturday and Sunday is slated for 2:00 p.m., at Jaguar Field.
