AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta State Jaguars split with Georgia Southwestern (20-22, 4-8 PBC) in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Friday, March 25 at Jaguar Field. The Hurricanes earned a seventh inning win to beat the Jags 4-3 in game one. ASU answered back with an 8-2 victory in game two. With the win, ASU improved to 24-10 overall and 5-3 in the PBC.
In game one, the Jags jumped to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning. A single by junior Kristen Jones plated the first two runs, before a base hit by Junior Kaitlin Harris scored Jones. GSW's Christie Shankle held the Jags scoreless for the remainder of the game.
The Jags held a 3-1 lead, when a GSW two-run homer in the sixth inning allowed the Hurricanes to tie the game. Two seventh inning base hits led GSW to a 4-3 victory. ASU Sophomore Laura Brown (5-3) suffered the loss.
GSW carried their momentum into game two, scoring first off a solo homerun in the second inning. The Jags put up three runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead. GSW scored one run in the top of the sixth to narrow the lead.
ASU scored five more runs in the sixth inning, including a three-run homer by senior Alyssa Pingree. The Jags shut down the Hurricanes in the seventh to secure the 8-2 victory.
Junior Emily Headrick (11-3) earned the win, allowing just four hits and two runs in seven innings of work. Pingree totaled four RBI on the day, while Kristen Jones booked 3 RBI.
The Jaguars are back on the field Wednesday, March 30, at 2:00 p.m. when they host Lander at Jaguar Field.
