AUGUSTA, Ga. – Columbus State defeated the Jaguars 9-6 on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the three-game Peach Belt Conference series. The Jaguars took the series from the Cougars 2-1.
With the win, Columbus State improved to 12-6 overall and 1-2 in league play, while the loss dropped Augusta State to 9-11 overall and 3-3 in the Peach Belt Conference.
The Cougars started the game with a double by lead-off hitter Ryan Lewis, who plated the first run for Columbus State. The Jags answered back in the fourth inning when a triple by senior Andy Onufrak plated freshman Menelik Vereen, who reached on a walk. A single by senior Casey Hanrahan scored Onufrak.
ASU had a 6-4 lead before the Cougars rallied back, scoring five runs in the final two innings to book the 9-6 victory over the Jags.
Sophomore Josh Barks (0-2) suffered the loss, while CSU's Tyler Carpenter (1-2) took the win. Blake Sills earned his third save of the season.
The Jaguars are back in action Tuesday, March 8 when they take on Erskine, at home, in a non-conference match up at Lake Olmstead Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
