AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Lander scratched for three runs in the top of the seventh to earn a split of its Peach Belt Conference doubleheader with Augusta State Tuesday afternoon at Jaguar Field.

With the split, ASU's record moved to 30-16 overall and 11-9 in the PBC, while the Bearcats closed within a game of .500 at 21-22 on the season and 6-14 in the league.

In the opening game, the Jaguars exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth and claimed a 12-4 victory in six innings. Junior third baseman Jessica Thornton stole two bases and scored three runs and, along with Destiny Echols and Laura Brown, had two hits. Brown, Kaitlin Harris and Alyssa Pingree all drove in a pair of runs.

Heather Hughes (11-4) earned the win, registering four strikeouts in 6.0 innings while yielding seven hits and four runs.

Thornton smacked her team-leading 10th home run of the season -- a solo shot to left off the top of the back fence -- in the fourth inning to put ASU in front 1-0.

Despite outhitting ASU 8-4, Lander trailed 1-0 entering the seventh. Chasity Davis reached on a leadoff single and advanced to second on an error. Morgan Robinson then delivered the first of three straight run-scoring hits and the Bearcats posted a 3-1 win.

ASU heads to the PBC Softball Championships this weekend in Florence, S.C. The Jags take on Flagler on Friday, April 15 at 11:00 a.m.
