Jaguars Split On Day One

FLORENCE, S.C. -- Augusta State split a pair of contests Friday during the Peach Belt Conference Softball Championships, hosted by Francis Marion.

ASU junior Emily Headrick fired a four-hit  shutout as the Jaguars bounce back from a 5-2 loss to Flagler with a 1-0 victory over UNC Pembroke.

The Jags managed just two hits, but took advantage of an error in the fifth inning when Kacee Camp scored with the only run of the game.

Headrick (15-5) struck out three and walked two while UNCP's Starr Gilley dropped to 5-6 on the season.

In their loss to Flagler, the Jags fell behind 5-1 in the first two innings and never recovered.

Kristen Jones went 2-for-3 while Jessica Thornton, Camp and Heather Hughes had one hit each.

Hughes (11-8) suffered the loss and was charged with six hits and five earned runs in 1.1 innings.

ASU will face Georgia College at 9:00 a.m., Saturday morning. Live stats are available at http://fmustats.fmarion.edu/.
