SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Augusta State Jaguars suffered a Peach Belt Conference sweep to the Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates on Thursday afternoon. Armstrong defeated the Jags 5-4 in game one, and the second game 11-2, in five innings. With the win, the Pirates improved to 26-8 overall and 11-5 in the PBC. The Jaguars dropped to 26-14 overall and 7-7 on the PBC.
The Jaguars opened the day plating the first run, however, the Pirates jumped to a 4-1 lead going into the third inning. The Jags answered back in the fourth inning when a three-run homer by junior Kacee Camp tied the game. Both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning. After a pair of back-to-back singles, a single to center field plated the winning run for the Pirates, taking a 5-4 victory over the Jags.
ASU's Heather Hughes (8-6) took the loss for Augusta State, giving up seven hits and five runs in 6 2/3 innings, walking three. AASU's Megan Barnwell (17-5) earned the win.
Armstrong carried the momentum from game one into game two, scoring nine runs in the first two innings. The Jaguars managed to plate two runs, before the Pirates scored two more runs in the fourth inning. The Pirates topped the Jags 11-2 for a five inning victory. Junior Emily Headrick (13-4) suffered the loss, while Barnwell picked up win number two on the day.
Junior Kacee Camp paced the Jags with three hits and five RBI on the day. Senior Destiny Echols and junior Jessica Thorton each had three hits, Thorton with an RBI. Senior Kacey Sims recorded two hits for the Jags.
The Jaguars are back in action Saturday, April 9, to take on the USC Aiken Pacers for Augusta State's senior day. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Jaguar Field.
