AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader with USC Aiken Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field.
The Jags pounded out 14 hits in an 8-2 win in the opener, including a 3-for-4 effort from senior first baseman Tristan Toorie. Caleb Saggus, Jake Sutton and Matt Smith all had two hits, while Smith and Torrie each drove in a pair runs.
Sophomore righthander Scott Shipman improved to a team-best 6-2 on the season, allowing six hits without an earned run in 7.0 innings. Aaron Lewis closed out the game, yielding three hits and a run over the final 2.0 innings.
Josh Miller, JJ Loker and Tyler Bourdo each tallied two hits for USCA.
Aiken jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game two and posted an 8-4 victory. The Pacers collected 15 hits, including a 4-for-5, 3-RBI showing from Miller.
Thomas Mcleod (6-4) gave up seven hits and three earned runs.
Toorie was 3-for-4 and Smith had two hits. Senior lefty Joah Evans (2-4) took the loss, surrendering eight hits and five runs -- three earned -- in 4.2 innings.
ASU and the Pacers wrap up their three-game series with a single game Sunday at noon.
