CARROLLTON, Ga. -- Augusta State edged West Georgia 5-4 Sunday afternoon to earn a split of a non-conference doubleheader at Cole Field.
Jaguar junior righthander Josh Barks (2-0) earned the win with 6.1 innings of work. He allowed seven hits and four earned runs with a strikeout and three walks. Junior reliever Tyler Ross earned his first save, working out of a two-on, one-out jam in the bottom of the seventh.
Junior Curtis Parker drove in two runs and Jeff Rice scored a pair of runs for ASU. Six Jags – Parker and Rice, along with Kevin Dodson, Zach Murray, Justin Thigpen and Matt Smith, had one hit each.
In the opener, the Wolves (2-1) plated three runs in the fifth and tacked on two more in the seventh for a 5-1 victory.
Junior first baseman Seth Foster (2-for-4) was the only Jag with more than one hit. Dylan Wall (0-1) took the loss for ASU, giving up five hits and three run – two earned – in 5.0 innings, walking two and striking out one.
ASU (4-3) hosts Paine College on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 2:00 p.m., at Jaguar Field on the Forest Hills campus adjacent to Christenberry Fieldhouse.
