NEWBERRY, S.C. – Newberry scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back, as Augusta State (5-7) fell 11-1 to the Wolves in non-conference action Wednesday.
Newberry (5-7) strung together five hits, including two doubles and a triple, to put the five-spot up early, and Mario Rojas held ASU to four hits in six innings for his first win of the season.
Rob Crosby fell to 0-1 with the loss for Augusta State.
The only Jaguar run came in the eighth, as Justin Thigpen doubled and eventually came home on Caleb Saggus' RBI sac fly to left.
Saggus led ASU with two hits, while five other Jags had one.
ASU is back in action Friday, February 24 as they head to Lander for a three-game Peach Belt Conference set. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
