AUGUSTA, Ga. – In a tight one through six, Armstrong Atlantic State (19-6) put 10 runs across in the seventh en route to an 11-2 non-conference victory Thursday at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
The Jaguars (8-22) struck first, scoring twice in the first inning. Zach Murray started things off with a one-out walk, and Seth Foster reached on error. Jeff Rice knocked a single through the left side to load the bases, setting up Kevin Dodson's two-RBI single through the right side for the early 2-0 lead.
Armstrong got a run back in the fifth on an error and a double to cut it to 2-1, and the score stood until the seventh.
Rob Crosby (0-3) pitched well through the first six innings before running into trouble in the seventh. He ended up with five runs (four earned), two walks, and a strikeout in 6.1 innings
Travis Morris picked up the win for the Pirates to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Rice led the Jags with two hits, while Dodson drove in two runs. Mike Barnhill led AASU with a 3-for-4 night, scoring once and driving in two.
Augusta State next hosts Columbus State in the Peach Belt Conference series beginning with a doubleheader Saturday, March 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Lake Olmstead Stadium and concluding with a single game Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
