HICKORY, N.C. – Augusta State (0-3) dropped a doubleheader to Lenoir-Rhyne (2-1) 7-1, 1-0 in the Lady Jaguars' first road test of the season Saturday afternoon.

LRU left-handed freshman Brandi Hole went 7.0 innings in game one, holding the Lady Jags to three hits. ASU freshman righty Paige Deschaine went 5.1 innings to give up five hits for seven earned runs and junior Kaleigh McNair pitched 0.2 innings.

ASU went up 1-0 in the third with some help from the Bears' defense. Junior Macy Terry doubled to start the inning and senior Laura Brown walked. Brown advanced to second after sophomore Molly Walton hit into a fielder's choice – putting Terry out of third. Freshman Erika Burkhart reached on an error from LRU's infield that loaded the bases and freshman Nichole Lyday was hit in the next at bat to walk in ASU's only run of the game.

LRU responded in the bottom of the third when they scored four runs. Deschaine walked in LRU's first run of the game and gave up a bases-clearing double to right field from LRU sophomore Katie Carpenter. The Bears added three more after Deschaine walked the first batter of the inning and the next doubled. Junior Haily Jarman hit a three-run homerun before McNair came in to get out of the inning.

A one-run affair, game two saw closer action with each team adding four hits and turning in no errors. Scoreless through sixth innings, the Bears took the game in their final at bat off an RBI single from Carpenter. A leadoff single started the inning for the Bears and a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to second. Carpenter's line drive up the middle plated the runner from second for LRU's 1-0 last-inning victory.

Freshman starter Haley Birkle (0-2) went 6.1 innings in the loss and LRU freshman Maryann Hoskins went 7.0 innings. Birkle gave up four hits for one earned run and Hoskins struck out eight, allowing four hits.

ASU stays on the road when the head to Due West, S.C. on Wednesday, Feb. 13 for a non-conference doubleheader against Erksine at 2:00 p.m.
