Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State swept Francis Marion in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, 6-1 and 7-5 at Jaguar Field.
ASU (10-16, 4-2 PBC) senior Lauren Yeargan recorded four RBIs in game one, including a two-run homerun for the 6-1 win over the Patriots (19-11, 5-3). Freshman righty Kristen Mills (6-0) got the win in game one in 7.0 innings, to allow five hits for one run and five strikeouts.
FMU went up 1-0 in the first, but ASU rallied for six unanswered runs – starting with Yeargan's two-run double in the third. The Jaguars added two in the fourth off Kristen Bagley's homer to left field and Yeargan's homer in the fifth gave ASU a 6-1 final score.
Freshman Haley Birkle started game two for the Jags, going 7.0 innings to allow five hits for five runs (two earned). FMU took a 3-0 advantage by the third inning, but ASU plated five and took the lead on Molly Walton's two-RBI single. The Patriots got one back in the seventh in route for a comeback, but Birkle got a popup to the catcher to hold on to game two 7-5.
Yeargan went 3-for-7 with five RBI's and two runs on the day, while Walton went 2-for-3 with an RBI in game two. Laura Brown, Bagley, Macy Terry, Brooke Stephens, and Hannah Vaughn all notched one hit in game for the Jags
The Jags continue PBC play tomorrow, March 17 when they host UNC Pembroke for a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m.
