Bobcats Sweep ASU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College's walk-off win in the ninth inning of game two over Augusta State, sealed the Peach Belt Conference series sweep with the Bobcats winning the doubleheader 7-1 and 7-6 Sunday afternoon on John Kurtz Field.

The Bobcats (17-9, 9-5 PBC) steadily built a 5-0 lead in the first game, by adding one run in every inning but the third. ASU (10-20, 3-11) freshman Hunter Boose put the Jags on the board with a sacrifice fly to right field in the seventh to score junior Nate Crown. GC outhit the Jaguars 12-to-6 in game one as the Bobcats strolled to a 7-1 final score.

ASU junior left-hander Kip Custer (5-3) took the loss, he surrendered six runs (five earned) on 10 hits and dealt five strikeouts. Senior Josh Barks pitched 2.0 innings of relief, and was charged with one run on two hits. GC's Justin Blue (5-2) went the distance on the mound, to allow six hits for one run and striking out five. Ikaika Anderson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Bobcats and Jeremy Davidson was 3-for-4 with two runs.

GC's Patrick Olvaney started game two before Jordan Modine and Jordan Brooks relieved. Brooks (1-1) got the win in 4.0 innings, allowing two hits and dealing two strikeouts. ASU's Dylan Wall gave up three runs to GC in the first inning off three hits and two walks. Wall went 5.2 innings, striking out six and allowing six runs on nine hits, before Clint Echols (0-5) relieved. Echols took the loss in 3.0 innings for three hits on one run.

After GC added another in the second, ASU freshman Justin Mee plated freshman Ryan Workmeister with a sac fly to left field. The Jags rallied to tie the game at 4-all with a couple of hits and some help from the Bobcats defense. Workmeister's RBI-single to center brought around Ross Miles and a fielding error on GC scored Seth Foster, before Mee produced another RBI sac fly.

Two more hits in the fifth gave ASU a 6-4 advantage when Mee drove in his third run with a single to score Logan South. Next up, Crown reached second on a fly ball off the left fielder's glove to score Mee for an unearned run.

The Bobcats' left fielder, Jake Sandlin, avenged his error with a two-run double in the sixth to knot the game 6-6. Echols put the winning run on third with a hit batter and two wild pitches in the bottom of the eighth, but dealt a strikeout to get out of the inning. In the bottom of the ninth, a bunt single and stolen base put Daniel Bick on second for GC and Taylor Henshaw lined an RBI single to right center for a 7-6 walk-off win.

Foster went 4-for-8 on the day, while Miles went 2-for-6. Workmeister was 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI in game two, while Mee went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and a run.

The Bobcats host ASU for the series finale tomorrow, Monday, March 25 for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.
