COLUMBUS, Ga. – Augusta State fell at Columbus State 3-1 and 11-0 in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Friday night on Cougar field.

Mollie Russell (15-6) notched a one-hitter in her start for the Cougars (29-11, 10-2 PBC), with Molly Walton's infield single being the only offense she allowed to the Jaguars. Russell pitched a complete game, dealing seven strikeouts to compensate for CSU's three errors in game one.

The Cougars jumped to a 2-0 lead on the Jaguars (14-22, 5-5) until Hanna Vaughn scored on a throwing error for an unearned ASU run in third inning.

Freshman starter Haley Birkle (5-11) went 6.0 innings in the loss for ASU, surrendering seven hits for three runs. Kaycee Meeks went 2-for-3, while Kristen Carr and Casey Googe went 1-for-2 with an RBI for CSU.

The Cougars' offense was active early off ASU starter Kristen Mills (7-3). Mills went 2.0 innings for the loss, surrendering six hits for six runs (two earned) and dealing two strikeouts. CSU put up four runs in the first inning off two hits and an error. The Cougars enjoyed another big inning in the third, scoring six runs to eventually take an 11-0 run-rule win in the fifth.

CSU outhit the Jags 11-1 and recorded no errors to ASU's two in the second meeting. Walton had the lone hit for the Jaguars again, going 2-for-4 on the day.

Taylor Turner (9-3) went 4.0 innings to earn the win allowing one hit and dealing four strikeouts, before Kristen Carr relieved in an inning to throw three strikeouts.

ASU continues their road stint tomorrow, March 30 for a PBC doubleheader at Georgia Southwestern.
