AMERICUS, Ga. – Augusta State fell to Georgia Southwestern 2-1 and 6-2 Saturday afternoon, despite outhitting the Canes 8-to-7 in the second meeting in Americus, Ga.

Jaguar (14-24, 5-7) senior Lauren Yeargan had the only RBI for ASU in game one with a single in the first inning that scored sophomore Molly Walton. GSW (24-22, 8-10 PBC) responded with Mason Moreland leading off with a single and stealing two bases. She scored an unearned run on an ASU infield error to knot the game at 1-all. Moreland went 2-for-3 with two runs and three stolen bases for the Canes.

The Canes scored the go-ahead run in the fifth when Moreland leadoff with a bunt single and scored when Avery Purser singled for a 2-1 victory. Allison Pastor (11-7) pitched a complete game, limiting the Jags to one run on five hits and dealing four strikeouts. ASU freshman Haley Birkle (5-12) went 6.0 innings in the loss, surrendering five hits for two runs and striking out three.

In game two the Canes cruised to a 6-0 lead before five ASU singles got the Jags on the board. Macy Terry led off with one to center field and one batter later, Erika Burkhart started a train of four consecutive singles with Kristen Bagley, Brooke Stephens and Laura Brown following. Stephens plated Terry with a single to shortstop and Brown plated Burkhart with a shot to left field. Two runs wasn't enough to help ASU pitcher Kristen Mills, who went 1.2 innings to get the loss, giving up four runs on four hits. Mills relieved Paige Deschaine, who went 4.1 innings, surrendering three hits for two runs and striking out five.

Ashley Cavender (8-8) got the win in 7.0 innings, allowing eight hits for two runs and dealing six strikeouts. ASU's Macy Terry went 4-for-4 with a run while Stephens and Burkhart were 1-for-3 with an RBI.

ASU hosts Newberry in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 3 at Jaguar Field.
