Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Augusta State dropped two Peach Belt Conference games to Georgia College 9-8 and 8-5 on Saturday afternoon despite taking an early 2-0 lead in the second game.
After GC (34-12, 16-4 PBC) took an early 2-0 lead off (ASU 18-30, 7-13) starter Kristen Mills, the Jaguars rallied for six-unanswered runs. After Erika Burkhart singled and Mills walked, Brooke Stephens singled through the left side for one run before Mills scored on a Bobcat. In the third, Hannah Vaughn leadoff with a single and Macy Terry knocked a two-run single. Mills RBI-singled up the middle and Stephens recorded a sacrifice fly for a 6-2 game. Mills tossed 3.2 innings and Haley Birkle and Paige Deschaine each relieved, with Deschaine (1-9) getting the loss.
The Bobcats enjoyed a five-run fourth inning and after ASU notched two in the fifth and GC one more, the game went to extra innings tied 8-all. GC starting pitcher Dani Gallucci (11-4) helped her cause in the 10th inning with an RBI-double to steal game one 9-8. Gallucci went 4.1 innings, before Abi Leroy got the win in 5.2 innings, limiting ASU to two hits and dealing two strikeouts.
Brooks went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs for GC, while Campbell was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a run. For ASU, Stephens went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Terry was 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
Vaughn leadoff the second game with a single and ASU took a 3-0 lead until the Bobcats responded with four. Vaughn singled again to start the second and Terry's two-run single up the middle scored Yeargan and Vaughn. The Bobcats went up 8-5 off two hits and four runs in the third to complete the sweep.
Vaughn and Stephens went 2-for-4 in game two while Yeargan was 2-for-3. The Diamond Jags sum up the regular season with a PBC doubleheader at Armstrong Atlantic Sunday, April 14 at 2:00 p.m.
