Box Score 2 ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Flagler outhit Augusta State 11-5 in the first game of the Peach Belt Conference doubleheader to take a 12-0 win, before edging the Jaguars in the second affair 2-0 on Flagler Field Tuesday afternoon.
Flagler erupted in the fourth inning of game one to plate 11 runs off ASU starter Haley Birkle. Birkle (7-13) tossed 4.0 innings, surrendering 11 hits for nine runs and dealing two strikeouts. Kalyn Loverich (14-6) tossed five scoreless innings, limiting the Jags to five hits.
Whitney Little, Malloree Escue, Molly Whittington each went 2-for-3 in game one, while ASU's Molly Walton, Lauren Yeargan, Brooke Stephens, Kristen Bagley, and Laura Brown all notched one hit in the shortened five-inning game as Flagler earned a run-rule win in the fifth.
ASU held a closer contest in game two matching the Saints' three hits in the game. Scoreless through three innings, Flagler took a leadoff walk in the fourth to set up an RBI-single for the first score of the game. An ASU infield error led to an unearned run and the final score of the game, as the Saints' two runs were enough to take the day.
Jags freshman Kristen Mills (8-6) tossed 6.0 innings, limiting the Saints to three hits for two runs (one earned) and dealing two strikeouts. Katie Enright (13-6) dealt 11 strikeouts to overcome her team's two runs and seal the win in 7.0 innings allowing three hits.
Walton and Stephens were the only two Jags to record hits in each game, with both going 1-for-2 in the second meeting. ASU continues PBC play with doubleheader at Georgia College Friday, April 12 at 3:00 p.m.
