NEWBERRY, S.C. – GRU Augusta gave up a 3-1 lead to the Newberry Wolves on two big innings to fall 8-4 at Smith Road Complex in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.

The Wolves (8-4) went up in the fourth inning on a two-out RBI single from Jermale Paige, but the Jaguars (5-7) answered in the next inning with consecutive doubles from Tyler Roberts and JD Sabo to tie the game after Sabo traded places with Roberts on second with a hit to left center.

Justin Mee leadoff in the sixth with a single to left where he advanced to second on a misplaced ball by the outfielder. After a single moved him to third, Mee scored on a throwing error from the third baseman. The Wolves put in a new pitcher for Roberts to knock his second hit of the game and put the Jags on top 3-1.

Jamie Suggs gave the Jags 5.0 innings of work in his first start of the season, allowing four hits for one run with two strikeouts. Will Robertson relieved Suggs to get out of the sixth, but the Wolves jumped on the righty in the seventh to score four runs. The Jags went to Tyler Brown in the eighth who gave up a homer and three hits total for three more Newberry Runs. The Wolves took an 8-4 victory, while GRU's Robertson (0-1) took his first loss in 1.2 innings pitched.

The Jaguars left 11 men on base in the loss and had three errors. Roberts paced the GRU offense to go 4-for-5 with an RBI and Sabo went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Mee and Miles both went 2-for-4, while Paige willed the Wolves with a 3-for-4 day, getting an RBI and scoring a run.

Newberry's Wesley Camp (4-0) got the win in 1.2 innings of relief after Jake Nidiffer tossed 5.1 innings in his start to allow nine hits for three runs (one earned).  The Jags play their Peach Belt Conference home opener this Friday-Saturday, Feb. 21-22 against Columbus State at Lake Olmstead Stadium, starting with a 6:00 p.m. singe game one Friday.
