Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, Ga. – After dropping the single game on Friday, the Jaguars fell twice to the Columbus State Cougars on Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference series at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
Sophomore lefty Frank Warren made his fourth start for the Jaguars in game one of the doubleheader. The Cougars carried over their offensive prowess from Friday night to record 11 hits in game one of the doubleheader. CSU scored in the second, third and fourth to eventually take a 9-1 final off four different GRU pitchers.
The Cougars only earned five of their nine runs as GRU committed three errors in the game one loss. Warren (1-1) took the loss in 3.1 innings to allow eight hits for five runs (three earned), while he struck out one. Jags senior JD Sabo and sophomore Connor Gilbert each went 2-for-4 to account for all of GRU's hits.
CSU jumped on the Jags in game two of the doubleheader and game three of the series when they scored two in the first inning of back-to-back errors from the GRU middle infielders. The Jags did the same to the Cougars in the bottom of the second when Justin Mee scored on a shortstop error.
GRU freshman righty Will Robertson gave up a leadoff triple to start CSU's fifth inning and a Jackson Oliver opposite-field single gave the Cougars a 3-1 advantage off Robertson in his first start of the season. Robertson tossed 4.2 innings to give up four runs (two earned) before he was pulled for junior reliever Jamie Suggs. CSU got an RBI-single from Mike McClellan for a 5-1 lead, before a deep CSU triple lead to two more Cougar runs.
Senior Clint Echols relived Suggs to record six strikeouts in 2.2 innings, but the Cougars took an 8-1 final to sweep the PBC series 3-0. Robertson (0-1) took his first loss of the year, while Bryan Headley got the win for CSU.
Jaguars play a single non-conference game at Erskine on Friday, Feb. 28 for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch in Due West, S.C.
