Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. –The Jaguars matched 10 hits with Anderson, but left nine men on base to fall 9-4 at non-conference Anderson on Thursday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
GRU Augusta (11-16) struck first in the second with Connor Gilbert knocking a leadoff double and Ryan Khan advancing him with a sac bunt. Chase Loyd lifted one to right field off of Trojan (10-18) starter David Thompson to score the first run on a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 Jaguar lead.
The Jags held the advantage until the fourth when starter Tyler Grooms walked the leadoff man. The runner took second on a wild pitch and an infield error put two on for AU. Right-hander David Bermudez came in for GRU and got an out on a groundball that held the runners on base, but Jonathan Zalud knocked a single and another wild pitch plated two for 2-1 swing.
AU built a 9-1 lead with help from four Jaguar errors. In the eighth, Hunter Boose sparked a GRU Comeback with a two-run homerun to left center and Loyd recorded his second sac fly, but the deficit was too much as the Trojans took a 9-4 final.
Bermudez (1-3) wore the loss in 2.0 innings, allowing four hits for two runs, but zero of them earned. Tyler Grooms pitched 3.0 in the start and gave up two runs (zero earned). The Trojans plated three on three hits off GRU's Jamie Suggs, before Mitchell Szwec gave up two runs in the seventh(zero earned).
David Thompson (3-3) got the win for AU in 7.0 innings, giving up seven hits for one run. Boose went 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Gilbert was for 3-for-3 with two runs. Next up, the Jags host No. 21 Georgia College (18-4, 10-2 PBC) for a Peach Belt Conference series starting this Friday, March 21 for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch at Lake Olmstead Stadium .
