Box Score HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Jaguars concluded non-conference action for the season on Wednesday afternoon in a 7-0 loss at Coker in Hartsville, S.C., at Tom J. New Field.
GRU Augusta (16-27) sophomore David Bermudez made his fifth start of the year to pitch one inning in a game that saw nine different Jaguars enter from the bullpen. The Cobras (21-20) had six different pitchers combine for the shut out. Freshman Forrest Arnold (4-2) earned the win with two innings of work. He held the Jaguars hitless and scoreless with a strikeout.
Jaguar batting leader JD Sabo had a 2-for-4 day, while Ross Miles, Connor Gilbert and Chase Loyd all had one hit in the loss. Sammy Song and Jack Leech led the way for the Cobras at the plate. Song drove in three runs on a triple, while Leech was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Fico Kondla also picked up two hits including a double with two runs scored.
Coker scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a two-run triple by Song and an RBI by Winslow. An RBI single by Kirkwood and a RBI sacrifice bunt by Leech in the bottom of the fifth put the Cobras on top 5-0. Coker tacked on two more runs with a sacrifice fly by Song in the sixth and an RBI single by Leech in the seventh for a 7-0 final.
Freshman Tyler Grooms (1-2) took the loss in 1.0 inning pitched where he allowed one hit for three runs (two earned).
The Jags host their final games of 2014 with a three-game Peach Belt Conference series with the Francis Marion Patriots, beginning with a 6:30 p.m. single game Friday, April 18 at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
