Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Jaguars gave up a run in the first and second inning and never overcame as the Francis Marion Patriots built a 10-1 lead in game three of the Peach Belt Conference series on Easter Sunday to take the win at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
Francis Marion (25-20, 10-16 PBC) took the first lead of the series-deciding third game. Michael Wilson knocked an infield single to the shortstop and Luke Tollison belted an RBI-double to the warning track of the right-center gap for the early advantage. After leaving 18 men on base in the series-opening doubleheader, GRU Augusta (17-29, 9-18 PBC) stranded Ryan Khan and Hunter Boose in the bottom of the first to keep FMU on top 1-0.
Lefty starter Frank Warren (4-6) gave up another run in the second when Isaac Davenport drove a curveball to the left side for a 2-0 lead. Warren pitched 2.0 innings and gave up four hits for two runs, before he took a seat for Tristan Jones to make an appearance in the top of the third. Jones got two quick outs, but Marquis Curry stroked a double down the right-field line to build a 3-0 lead.
Hunter Boose spoiled the shutout in the bottom of the sixth as he knocked his third single of the day to score JD Sabo, after Sabo doubled to left field. Down 3-1, the Jags intentionally walked Davenport to load the bases in the sixth and ideally set up the force out. Jones gave up a three-run double before GRU dropped a fly ball to give the Pats a 7-1 advantage in the sixth inning.
Spencer Jordan (3-4) held the Jags to one run on eight hits in his 6.0 innings pitched as the FMU starter. Patriot's saves and ERA leader, Jeffrey Stoner, came in to close out the game for FMU to outlast the GRU. GRU used four arms out of the bullpen to give up a combined 13 hits to GRU's nine for the Pats to take a 10-1 final.
The Jaguars play at nationally-ranked USC Aiken on Wednesday, April 23 for a 6:30 p.m. start with the Pacers.
