Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Jaguars made up the single non-conference game with the Erskine Flying Fleet on Wednesday afternoon to fall 15-3 at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
In their fourth meeting of 2014, GRU Augusta (16-23) trailed early when Erskine (24-11) found life after Logan Galliher and Destin Nichols knocked two singles up the middle. Jaguar starter Will Robertson hit Joey Wilson to load the bases and Tanner Lollis plated two with a single to left field. Andrew Kozak lined another to left field, giving Erskine a 3-0 lead after the second inning.
The Jags loaded the bases on Erskine starter Kyle Foster in the third inning, but a fly ball to center field ended the inning to keep the Fleet on top. The Jags went to Tyler Grooms on the mound in the fourth for him to give up a three-run homer to Chase Corn for a 6-0 Flying Fleet lead. Brandon Overstreet singled past a diving Hunter Boose at third base to score Tanner Lollis from second, after Lollis singled in the second at bat of the inning.
Chase Loyd broke open the shutout in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Connor Gilbert for an 8-1 game. Overstreet rebuilt Erksine's lead when he belted a home run to left field for a 12-1 game in the seventh, but GRU's Gilbert stayed hot and lifted his second double of the day into left center to cut the Fleet lead to nine.
Robertson (1-2) got the loss in 2.0 innings of work, giving up five hits for three runs before the Jaguars unloaded the bullpen to close out the game for Erskine to build a 15-3 score for the final.
Kyle Foster (1-0) took the win in 6.0 innings of work, stranding seven Jags on base while allowing six hits for a run. The Fleet posted 20 hits to GRU's 10. Sophomores Connor Gilbert and Hunter Boose and seniors JD Sabo and Ryan Khan all had two hits in the game, while Gilbert recorded two RBI and Chase Loyd one. The Jags host rival USC Aiken for a three game series beginning with a single game this Friday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
