Box Score 4 AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta softball team won four non-conference games this weekend when they swept Queens (N.C.) on Feb. 28 and Tusculum on March 1 at Jaguar Field.

The Jags took care of the Queens (N.C.) Royals on Feb. 28, outscoring them 17-7 over two games. GRU right-handed pitcher Paige Deschaine got the win in game one, tossing 7.0 innings and allowing five hits for three runs (one earned).
Two Jags recorded 3-4 performances in the batter's box in game one, with Hannah Wilson tallying three hits with a scored run in the leadoff position. Molly Walton, in the two hole, also knocked three hits with a scored run in Saturday's first game.
Queens took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, but the Jags put up two in the bottom of the second and three in the third to steal the lead. GRU let the Royals score two in their last scheduled at bat, but Deschaine struck out the final batter to seal the 5-3 win. Deschaine (4-1) had 21 strikeouts over the weekend, striking out six against Queens and 15 against Tusculum.
Jags lefty Haley Birkle got the game-two win over Queens in 4.1 innings of work, allowing one hit for two runs and striking out three. The Jaguar offense had five doubles and two homers in the 12-4 blowout win in five innings. GRU had 14 hits to Queens' one.
In the second weekend doubleheader on Sunday, the Jags hosted the Tusculum Pioneers and survived a close one-run game in the first meeting. The Jags bats slowed down on Sunday, but Deschaine sat down 15 batters on strikeouts – carrying her team to a 2-1 win.
Birkle (4-1) got the win in the second game – pitching 6.0 innings and giving up six hits for four runs as the Jags cruised to a 12-4 victory in six innings. Caitlyn Glenn went 3-4 with two RBI and a scored run, Kristen Bagley shined with a 2-3 day, and Ferguson was 2-4 with two scored runs against the Pioneers in game two.
