AUGUSTA, Ga.  – The GRU Augusta baseball team lost two of three to the Montevallo Falcons in the Jaguars' Peach Belt Conference opening series from Feb. 28 – March 1 in Montevallo, Ala.

The Jaguars (5-8, 1-2 PBC) split the doubleheader against Montevallo (6-6, 4-2 PBC) on Feb. 28. The Falcons won game one 1-0, before the Jags evened the series with 6-2 win in game two. GRU Augusta plated two runs in the top of the ninth inning of game two to give the Jaguars breathing room in a 6-2 win over the Falcons in the nightcap Saturday night.

In the final of the meeting of the series on Sunday, each team matched 11 hits to take the game into an extra 10th inning. GRU took a 2-0 lead in the first inning off Drew Taylor's homerun, plating Clint Hardy who singled in his first at bat. Montevallo responded with two runs off Jaguar right-handed starter David Hagelston.

Hagelston tossed 3.0 innings and gave up five hits for three runs before the Jags went to the bullpen to use four arms. Kevin Dodson gave up three hits for one run in the third and fourth, before Frank Warren allowed one run to UM in the fifth.

Down 4-2 in the fifth, GRU made it a run-one game when Tyler Roberts took home on a wild pitch. The Falcons scored their solo run in the fifth to make it 5-3, but the Jaguars got life from CJ Reed in their next at bat.

Reed doubled to left center to start the eighth inning and Nick Rau drove him in with a RBI single to right field. In their final scheduled at bat, Reed tied the game with a single to score Bradley Dennis for a 5-5 game.

GRU reliever Will Robertson struck out the first man he faced in the bottom of the 10th inning, but a single put the go-ahead run on and a wild pitch and fielder's choice moved the runner to third. Robertson (0-1) gave up a single to left center to give the Falcons the game three-win. 

The Jags play at Young Harris for another PBC series March 7-8, beginning with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. on March 7 in Young Harris, Ga.
