Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, Ga. – After taking game one on Friday 10-9 in 11 innings, the Jaguars (8-12, 3-6 PBC) dropped the doubleheader to the Lander Bearcats on Sunday at Lake Olmstead Stadim.
The Lander Bearcats (12-13, 5-10 PBC) jumped out to an early lead in both games, and the Jaguars weren't able to get enough going in either to drop the series.
Junior lefty Matthew Kuhlenberg started the first game for the Jags and gave up four hits for five runs in 2.0 innings before being relieved by right-handed junior, David Bermudez. The Jags went through seven pitchers, but weren't able to quiet the bats of the Bearcats.
The Jags put up 11 hits in the game, led by senior Kevin Dodson (2-4, RBI) and juniors Nick Rau (2-2, RBI) and Cole Thompson (2-3, RBI). Five others had base hits as well; however, GRU couldn't string enough hits together to get back in the game, going down 21-5.
Tyler Brown started game two of the doubleheader. The sophomore righty pitched 4.0 innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs before the Jags went to freshman right-handed reliever, David Hagelston for a couple of innings.
The Jaguars ruined the Lander shutout in the eighth inning, scoring four off the bats of seniors Bradley Dennis and Nate Crown and freshmen Andrew Gomez and Jim Wagner. It was just a little too late and not quite enough to get them back in the game. They dropped the second game of the day 17-4.
GRU hosts a single non-conference game on Tuesday, March 17 at 4:00 p.m. at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
