Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Jaguars rallied for two Peach Belt Conference victories on Saturday afternoon to sweep the doubleheader with the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes at Lake Olmstead Stadium. GRU Augusta is now 11-16 and 5-9 in the PBC, while the Canes moved to 9-22 overall and 2-8 in the league.
Juniors Nick Rau (4-7) and Cole Thompson (6-8) and sophomore Clint Hardy (5-8) led offensively as the Jags took both games of today's doubleheader against the Canes.
Sophomore righty Tristan Jones started the day, earning his first win of the season. Jones pitched 7.0 innings, striking out three, while giving up seven hits and one earned run. Right-handed sophomore Will Robertson relieved Jones in the eighth, allowing two hits, no runs, and striking out one during his two innings.
Junior Nick Rau paced the Jags offensively in the first game with three hits, including an RBI homerun over the left field wall, his second of the season. He also scored two of the three runs in the game. Drew Taylor and Clint Hardy also earned an RBI each in the first game.
The Jags had eight hits by six batters during game one, scoring a run in each of the first, third, and fifth innings.
The Hurricanes were able to put a run on the board in each of the fifth and sixth innings, but Jones and Robertson were able to keep the situation under control, giving the Jags a 3-2 win.
Left-handed junior Matthew Kuhlenberg started game two for the Jags, earning his first win of the season. He struck out five while allowing eight hits and two earned runs in seven innings of work. He was relieved by junior righty David Bermudez, who struck out one batter while giving up two hits and no runs in two innings to close out the game on the mound.
The Jags had 15 hits in the second game, led by Cole Thompson (5-5, RBI), Clint Hardy (4-5, 2-RBI), Tyler Roberts (2-3), and Drew Taylor (2-4, 3-RBI).
Although the Hurricanes had ten hits in game two, they were only able to score two runs, and the Jags took the game 8-2 to sweep the DH. The Jags put together 23 hits in the doubleheader this afternoon. The team looked really strong defensively as well.
The Jags conclude the series tomorrow with GSW, Sunday March 29 for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
