Jags Top YHC 13-7 To Split Doubleheader

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The GRU Augusta Jaguars spilt the Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon to give Young Harris the series win after the Jags dropped the opening game on Saturday, March 7 at Zell B. Miller Field.

Young Harris used an early lead in game two to seal the series win, but the Jags wouldn't allow the sweep as they put up 16 hits in game two to split the doubleheader.

The Mountain Lions (8-12, 5-7 PBC) jumped on GRU game-one starter Clint Hardy early. Hardy tossed 3.0 innings in the start and only gave up two hits for four runs, but the hit was a grand slam in the third inning to put the Mountain Lions up 4-0.

The Jaguars (6-10, 2-4 PBC) knocked five hits total in game one to score two runs, but it wasn't enough as YHC poured on four more runs to take game one and a 2-0 lead in the series with an 8-2 victory.

Hardy (0-1) took the loss on the mound, while YHC's Donald Frew (1-3) got the win in 8.0 innings of work.

GRU righty-reliever Will Robertson pitched 2.0 innings of relief and struck out three batters, while surrendering two runs on four hits. Zach Ledbetter, Jamie Suggs, and Jordan Kelly all recorded one inning on the mound as well.

Drew Taylor paced the Jaguar offense with a 2-3 day, recording an RBI and a scored run while drawing a walk. The first five Mountain lions in the lineup all had hits in game one to spark YHC to the early victory.

In game two the Jaguars totaled 16 hits to score 13 runs, the second most they've scored in a game all season. GRU split the doubleheader with a 13-7 victory for their first win in the Peach Belt in 2015.

Taylor's bat didn't cool down in gam three as he posted three more hits for two RBI, while Connor Gilbert went 3-4 with three RBI. Hardy, CJ Reed, and Kevin Dodson all had two hits apiece for the Jags as well.

Matthew Kuhlenberg pitched 3.2 innings in his game two start for GRU, but reliever Adam Grice (2-0) got the win for GRU in 2.2 innings where he allowed three hits for one run. Kuhlenberg struck out five Mountain Lions in his start and surrendered three hits for one run.

The Jags host non-conference Erskine on Tuesday, March 10 for a 2:00 p.m. single game at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
