Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – Despite outhitting USC Aiken 10 hits to nine and tying the game 3-3 in the seventh inning, the Jaguars lost a close one-run game in the second meeting of the Peach Belt Conference series against the Pacers Saturday afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium by a score 4-3.
GRU Augusta (14-22, 7-13 PBC) had double-digit hits in the second game of the series and tossed three in the bullpen. In 6.0 innings of work, right-handed junior David Bermudez started his second game of the season for the Jags, striking out two while allowing six hits and three runs (two earned).
The Pacers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the second inning on three base hits and an error before things calmed down.
In the fourth inning, Clint Hardy (2-3; RBI) singled to the left side to put the leadoff man on base for the Jags. Drew Taylor (1-4; RBI) stroked a double to right-center field to plate Hardy before eventually coming home himself on a wild pitch.
Bradley Dennis (1-4), Nick Rau (2-5), and Hardy slapped back-to-back singles in the seventh, earning Hardy an RBI and tying the game at three.
Junior lefty Frank Warren relieved Bermudez in the seventh inning before the Jags made the move to right-handed reliever Adam Grice in the eighth.
Grice came in with no outs and a runner on first. He faced five batters, striking out one and giving up two hits, which allowed the winning run to score.
USC Aiken hosts game three of the series against the Jaguars tomorrow, Sunday April 12 at 1:00 p.m. in Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
