COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Jaguars won a 10-4 game one over the Columbus State Cougars, but fell in game two to split the Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in Columbus, Ga.
GRU (25-11, 11-7 PBC) knocked seven hits in game one and capitalized for 10 runs to win game one by a score of 10-4. Freshman Lindsey Stokes went 2-4 with four RBI and a scored run and Hannah Vaughn was 1-3 with four RBI.
The Jags jumped to a 2-0 lead over the Cougars (20-22, 6-12 PBC) in the first inning of game one. After CSU plated three in the fourth to steal the lead, GRU produced eight in the fifth and went on to take the win.
Stokes had a three-run homerun in the fifth to start the scoring and Vaughn plated three with a double. Paige Deschaine started game one on the mound, but lefty Haley Birkle relieved her and got the win.
Deschaine pitched 2.0 innings and only allowed one hit for no runs, while Birkle (12-8) got the win in 5.0 innings.
In game two of the double feature, the Jaguars went down 1-0 in the first and 4-0 after the second inning. The Jags scored one in the seventh on Molly Walton's RBi-single to center field to score Bagley.
Kristen Mills (1-2) tossed 1.1 innings in the start and gave up four runs on two hits, while walking five. Birkle came in for 4.2 innings of work in relief work.
Kristen Bagley was 2-3 at the plate with a scored run and Molly Walton went 1-3 with an RBI.
The Jags host Lander on Tuesday, April 14 at 2:00 p.m. for a PBC doubleheader and the ZTA Pink Out / Strike Out Cancer Day at Jaguar Field.
