AUGUSTA, Ga.  – With one out and the game tied 7-7, GRU Augusta sophomore Clint Hardy barreled a no-doubt homerun over the left-field wall to give the Jaguars a walk-off win over the visiting UNC Pembroke Braves in game one of the Peach Belt Conference series at Lake Olmstead Stadium Friday night underneath the lights.

The Jags were down two heading into their last scheduled at bat when Connor Gilbert plated two with a single to left field to force extra innings. Clint Hardy shined with the long ball to put an end to an eight-game winning streak for the NCAA Division II Southeast Region fourth-ranked UNC Pembroke Braves.

The Jaguars (16-25, 9-15 PBC) sent junior righty David Bermudez to the mound for his fourth start of the season. Bermudez entered the game with two wins, no losses and an ERA of 3.58 in his 13 appearances.

UNC Pembroke (35-11, 18-10 PBC) took an early lead, scoring two in the second inning off of a couple of doubles and a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the third, Kevin Dodson (2-4; two-RBI) led off with a walk, followed by singles from Drew Taylor (2-4) and Nick Rau (2-

4).  Connor Gilbert (2-3; three-RBI) earned his 14th RBI with a  sca-fly to center field before back-to-back singles off the bats of Cole Thompson (1-5), Gage Patton (2-4; RBI) and Hunter Boose (1-5; RBI) plated two more to steal the lead.

Two throwing errors and four base hits gave the Braves three unearned runs and the lead in the fourth before the Jags brought in right-handed sophomore Tristan Jones. Bermudez gave up three earned runs on eight hits in his 3.1 innings of work.

Down seven to three in the sixth inning, the Jags brought two home when Jim Wagner reached on a throwing error, and Clint Hardy (2-6; RBI, HR) doubled, before Dodson blasted a two-RBI double to left field.

As usual for Friday night home games, the Jags waited until the ninth inning to really make things exciting. Dodson started things off again, this time with a single to right field.

Taylor followed, smacking a single to left field, and Rau was hit-by-pitch to load the bases with no outs, bringing Gilbert to the plate.  Gilbert slapped a two-RBI double to tie the game at seven, and the Jags went into extra innings.

Tristan Jones struck out the first two batters in the top of the 10th, and Hunter Boose made a fantastic snag in shallow left field to keep the game tied.  Sophomore Clint Hardy came to the plate with one out and knocked a bomb for a walk-off home run to take game one of the series 8-7.

The series continues tomorrow, Saturday April 25 with a single conference game at 1:00 p.m. at Lake Olmstead Stadium.  There will be video and live stats available. Stay tuned to Jaguarsroar.com for details on the weather and for a game change if necessary.
