Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – GRU Augusta junior Matthew Kuhlenberg pitched the longest outing of his career in a complete-game win to lead the Jaguars to a 4-0 victory over UNC Pembroke on Saturday at Lake Olmstead Stadium and a 2-0 advantage in the Peach Belt Conference series.
First-pitch strikes helped Kuhlenberg all day on the mound, as he only allowed two hits all day. Kuhlenbeg (3-4) entered the game with an ERA of 3.58 and in nine innings of work and facing 31 batters, he struck out five while only walking two and allowing two hits and no runs.
The Jaguars (17-25, 10-15 PBC) jumped out to an early lead, scoring one in the first inning when Kevin Dodson (2-3) slapped a base hit up the middle and scored on Drew Taylor's (2-4; three-RBI) double to left-center field. They added to their lead in the third when Clint Hardy (2-3) scored off of a sacrifice fly by Taylor.
With two outs in the fifth inning, Hardy, Dodson and Taylor padded the Jags' lead on back-to-back singles before Connor Gilbert (1-4), Gage Patton (1-3) and Hunter Boose (1-4; RBI) combined to plate one more in the sixth.
Kuhlenberg sat down the Braves down in order in five innings and only allowed one hit in each of the second and sixth innings.
