Box Score DUE WEST, S.C. – Tied 2-2 heading into the fourth inning, senior Bradley Dennis tripled to score the go-ahead run, as the Jaguars outlasted the No. 3 Erskine Flying Fleet on Tuesday afternoon to win a 4-2 non-conference game on the road in Due West, S.C.
GRU Augusta (14-20) scored two unearned runs in the top of the first inning on Erskine (29-10) to take the initial lead. The Flying Fleet entered the game ranked No. 3 in the nation for Division II by the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
The Fleet tied the game with single runs in the second and third to make it a 2-2 game. Freshman righty David Hagelston (2-2) tossed 5.0 innings in the start and struck out three, while giving up just two runs on six hits.
In the fourth inning, GRU's Hunter Boose singled up the middle and Bradley Dennis hit an opposite-field triple in the left-center gap to score Boose. In the top of the fifth, Clint Hardy started the fun with a triple and Drew Taylor plated him on a single to center for the 4-2 lead.
The Jags held on for the 4-2 win, with Matthew Kuhlenberg relieving in 2.0 innings, and Adam Grice getting the save in 2.0 innings of work.
Junior catcher Cole Thompson went 3-5 with two RBI for the Jags, Drew Taylor was 2-5 with an RBI, and Gage Patton went 2-5 with a scored run. Dennis also recorded an RBI and Hardy scored two runs.
The Jags play at USC Aiken, Friday April 10 for a 6:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game at Roberto Hernandez Stadium in Aiken, S.C.
