Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Augusta Jaguars softball team traveled to Anderson, S.C., on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader and fell 6-5 and 3-1 in a pair of losses. Augusta led in game one in the final inning, but allowed a walk-off homerun.

Augusta (0-10) hosts the Erskine Flying Fleet on Wednesday, Feb. 17 for the 2016 home opener at Jaguar Field for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.

In game one, junior Brianna Dickens went 2-2 with a scored run and sophomore Lindsey Stokes and senior Kristen Bagley each went 1-3, with Bagley knocking a homerun and totaling three RBI. In the second game, Bagley had one of two Jaguar hits and Auburn Balcorta produced the other.

In game one, Anderson jumped out early in the bottom of the first up 2-0. The Jaguars did not find their way onto the scoreboard until the fourth inning Bagley got the offense going for Augusta with a three-run long ball for a 3-2 lead.

Anderson quickly tied it back in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single up the middle by Molly Child. The Jaguars kept the offense coming in the fifth when Stokes doubled to right to score a pair and give the Jaguars a 5-3 lead. The Trojans cut into that lead with a solo home run by Augie Pena in the bottom of the fifth, but the lead still belonged to the Jaguars.

Augusta led 5-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but a hit-by-pitch brought the go-ahead run to the plate for Anderson. With one out, Pena stepped into the box and knocked a two-run walk-off homer to give Anderson the win at 6-5.

Junior Kristen Mills started the game on the mound for Augusta and pitched 3.1 innings, allowing three earned runs, recording two strikeouts, and walking four. Senior Paige Deschaine (0-5) gets credited with the loss after pitching 3.0 innings and allowing three earned runs with three strikeouts.

Game two was a much more defensive battle, with the Jaguars falling 3-1.Sophomore Auburn Balcorta recorded the only run of the game for Augusta with a solo home run in the top of the third that gave the Jaguars their only lead of the game.

Anderson got their rally going in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs to take the lead 2-1 they never let go.

Freshman Emily Hittinger made her first start of her career on the mound for Augusta, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing two earned runs. Senior Haley Birkle (0-4) took the loss in 2.2 innings of work.
