Box Score 2 Augusta Goes 3-1 In Non-Conference Weekend
SALISBURY, N.C. – The Augusta Jaguars shut out Belmont Abbey 6-0 before falling in the sixth inning to Catawba 2-0 in day-two of the non-conference weekend in Salisbury, N.C., at Catawba College.
The Jags (5-11) began the weekend in Hickory, N.C., at Lenoir-Rhyne University and swept day one action with wins over Lenoir-Rhyne and Carson-Newman.
Augusta followed it up by blanking Belmont Abbey 6-0 with senior Paige Deschaine striking out 13 batters in a complete-game win where she only allowed one hit. The 13 strikeouts are the fourth most by Deschaine in her four-year career. She also went 2-3 at the plate in the eight hole.
Offensively, the Jags posted 11 hits to Belmont Abbey's one. Sophomore Auburn Balcorta went 2-4 with two RBI and a scored run and sophomore Erin Holcomb had two hits as well in the first game of day two.
Holcomb and senior Kristen Bagley produced back-to-back doubles in the second that led to two runs. Two seventh-inning homers from Balcorta and Senior Casey Rowland gave the Jags a 6-0 final score in game one.
The Jaguars met Catawba on their home field in the fourth and final game of the weekend and a no-score game was taken in to the sixth inning. Catawba carded the first scoring of the game with consecutive outfield singles for a 2-0 lead.
Edwards, Rowland, Holcomb, and Bradley each had recorded a hit as the Jags totaled four hits in the game to the Indians' two.
Jaguar freshman Emily Hittinger made her fourth start of her career and only surrendered two hits in the 6.0 innings for two runs.
