Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars produced 15 hits in an 11-7 Peach Belt Conference victory over the Montevallo Falcons on Saturday afternoon in Lake Olmstead Stadium.
The Jaguars (10-4, 2-0 PBC) took a 1-0 lead on the weekend over the Falcons (7-7, 2-3 PBC) with a 10-6 win in game one.
Sophomore Jim Wagner enjoyed a 3-4 day with two RBI and two runs, while senior Connor Gilbert and junior Cole Janousek each had two for two RBI. Junior Clint Hardy went 3-5 with three runs.
On the mound, junior Joey Stillwell (3-0) made his first start for the Jags and his sixth appearance of the season. He went 6.0 innings and surrendered one run on four hits with three strikeouts for the win.
Senior Drew Taylor lined a double down the left-field line to score Hardy in the first inning and Wagner doubled to start the second before Janousek scored him with an RBI groundball.
Augusta ascended to a 4-0 lead through four innings. In the fifth, back-to-back walks started the inning and senior Cole Thompson and Janousek struck straight singles for a 6-0 advantage.
The Falcons found their first run of the game in the sixth on an overthrow to first base from the pitcher, but the Jags scored four runs on five hits in the sixth for a 10-1 lead. The Falcons cut their deficit in half with four runs in the eighth inning, but the Jags hung on for the win.
Aron Mcree (2-1) pitched 5.0 innings in the UM start and allowed nine hits for six runs, while striking out two.
Freshman Aron Chick and senior David Bermudez combined for three innings of work for the Jags out of the bullpen.
Augusta concludes the PBC series with Montevallo on Sunday, Feb. 28 for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch at Lake Olmstead Stadium. There will be live updates on Twitter, no video or stats.
