Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, Ga. – Hosting their annual Pink Out games to support cancer awareness and raise funds for the GRU Cancer Center, the Augusta Jaguars won a 3-0 non-conference game over the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears before falling by the same score in game two at Jaguar Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Jaguars (9-23) snapped a nine game losing streak with a shutout win against Lenoir-Rhyne (18-6) in game one.
The Pink Out game was the second meeting between Augusta and the Bears, after the Jags won a 6-5 game on Feb. 19 at LRU. This is the second-straight year that ZTA is teamed with the Jags for the Pink Out doubleheader!
Numerous cancer survivors were in attendance to join the teams for the ceremonial first pitch, starting lineups, National Anthem, and the doubleheader. All proceeds raised at the game went to benefit the university's cancer center.
Lefty senior Haley Birkle (3-6) made her sixth start of the year and pitched a complete-game win with three strikeouts.
The Jags provided the first run of the day when sophomore Carolyn Edwards just missed a home run and doubled off the left-field wall to score junior Ashley Benton for a 1-0 score. They kept it going in the next inning when junior Brianna Dickens plated sophomore Erin Holcomb to boost the lead to 2-0.
Augusta had five hits through three innings and Dickens stayed hot with an opposite-field single to score senior Kristen Bagley for a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Lenoir-Rhyne game-one pitcher Emily Kenley (1-1) logged six innings and struck out six while allowing eight hits for three runs.
The Jags were led by a 2-3 day from sophomore Lindsey Stokes and a 2-2 performance from Dickens in game one.
In the second meeting, senior Paige Deschaine carded a complete-game performance for Augusta and struck out seven while allowing five hits for three runs (one earned).
Augusta had three errors and three hits in game two, as the Bears rallied for a solo run in the second, third, and sixth inning to take the win.
