Box Score GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Augusta University baseball team (13-9, 5-3 PBC) faced off against the Lander Bearcats (19-5, 11-3 PBC) in Greenwood, S.C., Saturday night for their second contest of the Peach Belt Conference weekend and fell to the No. 24 Bearcats 10-7 in Dolny Stadium.
Offense was on display from the beginning between these two hard-hitting teams. Senior Cole Thompson led the way offensively on the day for the Jaguars, going 2-3 with two RBI while junior Tyler Roberts went 2-4.
Augusta got on the board in the first with an RBI sacrifice fly to center by Hunter Boose, scoring Nick Rau. Lander answered quickly in the bottom of the first though, putting up four runs off of two Augusta errors.
Augusta's bats stayed hot in the second, adding two runs off four hits, but Lander answered once again with a leadoff triple and a two-run homer to center.
The teams exchanged blows, both having huge third innings, adding three runs apiece. Augusta scored one unearned and tacked on two more with a two-run homer by C. Thompson.
After the fifth inning, both teams stepped up defensively, only allowing a single hit between them over the next three innings. Lander's Harper Grier (4-1) was credited with the win and Augusta's CJ Reed (1-1) got credited with the loss.
Aron Chick came on in relief of the Jaguars' starter Joey Stillwell. Chick struck out six of the sixteen batters he faced.
The Jaguars will face Lander once again to close out the series tomorrow afternoon, March 13th, at 1:00 p.m.
