Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars opened the Peach Belt Conference series at Armstrong State with a 4-0 victory where the Jags outhit Armstrong 12-3 at Pirate Field on Saturday afternoon.
Augusta (15-10, 6-4 PBC) senior Tristan Jones (5-1) started his seventh game on the mound for the Jags and went the longest he has all season with a complete-game win where he only allowed three hits with six strikeouts.
It was a pitchers-duel scoreless game all the way into the sixth inning before the Jags took the first lead over Armstrong (11-12, 4-9 PBC).
Jags junior Clint Hardy recorded his second hit to start the sixth inning and reached second on a wild pitch. Augusta scored the go-ahead run when senior Conner Gilbert delivered an opposite-field single to score Hardy for a 1-0 lead.
The Jags grabbed a few insurance runs in the eighth inning when Hardy, and seniors Hunter Boose and Drew Taylor hit three-straight singles. Gilbert put two men in scoring position with a timely bunt, setting up senior Nick Rau to clear the bases with a two-RBI single and Augusta led 4-0.
Hardy paced Augusta with his first four-hit performance of the season and two scored runs. Taylor was 2-4 with an RBI and run and Rau was 1-4 with two RBI.
Armstrong's Corey Kafka allowed 10 hits in his 7.0 innings of work for Armstrong and gave up four runs while posting five strikeouts.
Augusta wraps the PBC series with the Pirates for a doubleheader on Sunday, March 20 beginning at 11:00 a.m.
