Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars lost a pair of Peach Belt Conference games to the Armstrong Pirates on Sunday afternoon at Jaguar Field. Prior to first pitch, the Augusta Jaguars (11-25, 0-8 PBC) celebrated the four-year careers of seniors Kristen Bagley, Haley Birkle, Paige Deschaine, and Casey Rowland.
The Pirates (20-8, 4-2 PBC) posted the first run in the first game with a left-center home run from Jane Trzaska and another two-run homer in the third lifted them up 3-0. The Jags loaded the bases in the third inning and sophomore Carolyn Edwards delivered a single through the left side to score juniors Brianna Dickens and Ashley Benton for a 3-2 game.
Tori Bates started on the mound for Armstrong and left the game in the fourth inning with a 3-2 lead to make way for reliever Sierra Pebbles.
Senior lefty Haley Birkle (4-7) started game one for Augusta and went 7.0 innings in the loss. Birkle gave up a run for a 4-2 deficit in the sixth inning, but she tossed an inning-ending strikeout to escape the sixth down by one.
The Augusta offense found themselves in a bases-loaded situation in the sixth inning with two outs, but couldn't produce a run and eventually fell 4-2.
Edwards was 2-4 with two RBI and Benton, senior Casey Rowland, and Dickens each had a hit in game one.
Tori Bates got the win for Armstrong and Jane Trzaska went 2-4 with two RBI to pace the Pirates' offense.
Armstrong used their third home run of the day to jump up 2-0 in the first inning of game two, but Jags sophomore Lindsey Stokes knocked a two-run blast in the bottom of the first to cut the Pirates' lead in half.
Paige Deschaine (5-9) logged 4.1 innings in her 11th start on the mound for Augusta and struck out six while giving up nine runs on eight hits.
In the second inning, Dickens plated senior Kristen Bagley with an RBI single to center field and a walk from Auburn Balcorta loaded the bases. Armstrong's Jane Trzaska (5-3) got out of the inning with a foul-ball pop out and her offense scored six runs in the fifth to run-rule the Jags 12-3.
Benton was 2-3 with a run and Stokes was 1-3 with two RBI to highlight the Augusta offense. Trzaska gave up six hits for three runs in 5.0 innings to get the win for the Pirates while Peyton Roth, Michelle Breen, and Ashley Sterritt all were 2-3 with an RBI for Armstrong.
Augusta hosts the Flagler Saints for a PBC doubleheader on Monday, March 21 for a 1:00 p.m. start at Jaguar Field.
