Box Score 2 AMERICUS, Ga. – After falling by two runs in game one of the series, the Jags won 15-2 and 14-0 at Georgia Southwestern to sweep the Peach Belt Conference twin bill on Saturday.
Augusta moves to 20-11 overall and 10-5 on the season, the first 20-win season since 2011.
Seven doubles from seven Jags in game one helped them to a quick lead. They scored one in the second, three in third and fourth, and two in the fifth before GSW put up their first run in the sixth. Augusta exploded for six runs in the seventh to take away any hopes of a Canes comeback.
Junior Joey Stillwell (5-0) remained in the win column with 6.2 innings of work – giving up six hits for two runs. Stillwell is ranked fourth in the PBC in ERA and third in wins.
Leadoff man Clint Hardy went 4-5 in game one and had two runs and two RBI. Senior Hunter Boose and junior Tyler Roberts each had three hits in the win and senior Conner Gilbert and junior Jamal Cummings each had a pair of knocks as the Jags totaled 19 hits to GSW's eight.
Earl Dupree (2-5) went 3.0 innings on the hill for GSW and gave up four runs on five hits before three more pitchers came in from the bullpen to try and slow Augusta.
Augusta's 14 hits produced 14 runs in game two in a 14-0 blowout to decide the series. Lefty junior Will Thompson (3-2) enjoyed a long outing and got the win in 7.1 innings – holding the Canes to only three hits.
Senior Nick Rau had four hits in five trips to plate and picked up three RBI and two runs. Sophomores Jim Wagner and Gage Patton each had two hits, and Cummings had two more and totaled three stolen bases on the day.
Augusta travels to St. Augustine, Fla., for a three-day PBC series at Flagler College April 1-3.
