Box Score PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Augusta Jaguars put up 24 hits the second time this week and won an 18-7 meeting at UNC Pembroke on Sunday afternoon in game three of the Peach Belt Conference series. This is the 16th victory where the Jags have scored 10 or more runs and the second largest amount of runs they've scored all season
The Jaguars (29-16, 17-10 PBC) fell to UNCP (26-20, 12-15 PBC) in the Saturday doubleheader by one run in the first game in two runs in the second, but the offense exploded in the Sunday finale to grab a win on the road.
The Jags led 4-0 after the top of the first inning and found themselves in a two-run game when the Braves scored a pair in the bottom of the inning. Three Augusta runs in the fifth gave junior pitcher Will Thompson a 6-2 lead to work with before the game was blown open in the sixth inning with seven runs from the Jags.
Augusta produced six hits and used three errors to build a 14-2 lead after the seventh inning and they went on to win an 18-7 game.
W. Thompson (6-3) got the win for Augusta in 7.0 innings, recording six strikeouts and allowing six hits for four runs. Augusta had seven doubles on Sunday and had eight players with two or more hits. Seniors Drew Taylor and Connor Gilbert each had four hits and combined for four RBI and three runs.
Junior Clint Hardy had three hits, three runs, and two RBI as the leadoff man, junior Jamal Cummings went 3-4 with two runs and an RBI. Sophomore Jim Wagner knocked two doubles and scored three times, senior Nick Rau was 2-3 with three RBI, and junior Tyler Roberts and senior Hunter Boose each had two hits.
Daniel Batts (3-2) picked up the loss for the Braves and gave up 13 hits for seven runs. Drew Beaver and Nolan Pierce each had two hits for UNCP.
The Jaguars host their final regular-season series of 2016 from April 29-May 1 against Georgia College for a Peach Belt Conference series at Jaguar Field. Augusta will host 2016 Senior Day on Saturday, April 29 prior to first pitch at 2:00 p.m.
