Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Jaguars (29-17, 17-11 PBC) began their final regular-season series of the season against Georgia College (29-16, 17-11 PBC) on Friday afternoon at Jaguar Field and fell 12-5 in Peach Belt Conference play.
Augusta honors seniors David Bermudez, Hunter Boose, Phil Dukes, Connor Gilbert, Nick Rau, C.J. Reed, Drew Taylor, Cole Thompson, and Frank Warren for 2016 Senior Day Saturday, April 30. The ceremony will take place before the game-two start at 2:00 p.m. on Jaguar Field.
To commence the weekend, Augusta University President Dr. Brooks Keel through out the ceremonial first pitch prior to game one as part of his inauguration week.
There were six home runs hit in the game, with Augusta knocking two and the Bobcats four. Junior Clint Hardy hit his seventh home run of the year in the bottom of the ninth inning as he went 3-5 with three RBI and a run and senior Nick Rau launched a long ball in the fourth for his third on the season.
Sophomore Jim Wagner had two hits and scored a run and senior Hunter Boose went 1-4 and scored a run for the Jags. Logan Mattix was 4-5 for GC as the leadoff man, Bradon Benson and Brandon Purcell each had three hits, and Dylan Cook was 2-6 with three RBI.
GC hit a home run in the first and second inning to take a 6-0 lead.
Weekend game-one starter Tristan Jones (7-4) went 3.2 innings for the Jags and allowed 11 hits for eight runs (seven earned), before freshman Chase Slone entered from the bullpen.
Augusta junior Clint Hardy cut the score in half with a two-run hit to left field in the second. GC tacked on two more in the fourth with the bases loaded, but the Jags made it an 8-4 game with Rau's two-run homer – scoring Boose in the bottom of the fourth
Conner Alford made the start for Georgia College and logged 3.0 innings to give up four runs on four hits. Cameron Busby (10-2) relieved out of the bullpen and picked up the win in 5.0 innings of work where he struck out six and gave up two hits.
In relief work for Augusta, Slone logged 3.2 innings and surrendered two runs on eight hits. Senior David Bermudez took over the mound midway through the eighth inning and closed out the game.
The Bobcats tacked on one in the sixth and eighth and won a final 12-5 score.
