Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Augusta Jaguars swept their third Peach Belt Conference series of the season with a 4-2 victory on the road at Flagler College on Sunday afternoon.
Augusta (23-11, 13-5 PBC) used two late rallies against Flagler (18-14, 7-11 PBC) to steal the opening two games. In game three, Augusta took their first lead of the weekend and held on for their-fifth straight win.
Up 2-0 after junior Jamal Cummings and senior Cole Thompson drove in runs early, Augusta gave one back to the Saints in the third inning, but Jags senior Nick Rau homered to left field with two outs to keep Augusta up by two runs.
Junior Clint Hardy singled, stole second, and scored in the fifth inning off the bat off senior Hunter Boose for a 4-1 lead.
Lefthander Will Thompson (4-2) recorded his first complete-game performance as a Jaguar and matched his season-high nine strikeouts in his 10th start for Augusta. W. Thompson tossed all 9.0 innings and only allowed two runs on five hits.
An opposite-field groundout scored another Flagler run for a 4-2 game in the sixth inning, but W. Thompson held them there the rest of the game for the win and sweep.
Rau was 2-3 with an RBI and run with his home run, Hardy went 2-5 with two runs, and Boose posted a 2-5 day with an RBI and double as Augusta outhit Flagler 9-5.
Dustin Dye (4-4) pitched 5.1 innings for Flagler and got the loss, while Nick Oberg was 2-4 and Dyaln Jones was 1-3 with an RBI.
The Jaguars play across town at Paine College for a non-conference game at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6.
