Box Score 2 FLORENCE, S.C. – The Augusta Jaguars split a pair of Peach Belt Conference games on Wednesday at Francis Marion, falling 4-3 in game one before winning 1-0 in the second meeting.
Augusta moved to 15-29 overall and 4-12 in the PBC, while FMU went to 30-16 and 8-10 in the league.
In game one, a 3-0 lead put FMU ahead in the third inning with three singles off Jags starter Haley Birkle.
Augusta got two runs back for a 3-2 game in the sixth inning. Sophomore Lindsey Stokes plated junior Brianna Dickens with a single in the fifth and sophomore Auburn Balcorta scored senior Casey Rowland in the sixth on a liner down the right-field line.
Down by one run, Birkle gave up a homer in the bottom of the sixth and Francis Marion stretched out a 4-3 final.
Birkle (5-10) pitched 6.0 innings and struck out four while surrendering nine hits for four runs. Sophomore Carolyn Edwards went 2-4 in game one and Stokes was 1-3 with a run and RBI.
Mykah Nevin was 2-3 with a run and RBI for the Pats and Chelsea Welty was 2-4 with a run.
Shelby Kelley (16-12) took the win for FMU in 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits.
In the second meeting, senior Paige Deschaine (8-9) started on the mound for the Jags and sat down 11 Patriots on strikeouts. Deschaine only gave up three hits and allowed no runs.
No score until the sixth inning, senior Casey Rowland singled to right center and scored senior Kristen Bagley for a 1-0 lead.
Augusta held off the Pats to take the 1-0 victory and split the day.
Augusta hosts Montevallo on Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m. and Columbus State on Sunday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m.
