"It's a situation where the whole team has got each other's back," Head Coach Jason Eller said. "What we did last week at Flagler and over the last few days, it's pitching, it's hitting, it's defense, and guys coming off the deck and playing well. There's a lot of energy in the dugout. The guys are into it, being good students of the game. Everybody's contributing and it's really fun to be a part of."
Junior righty Joey Stillwell (6-0, 3.89 ERA) took the mound for his seventh start of the season. He threw 5.1 innings, giving up five runs on nine hits with six strikeouts before being relieved by right-handed freshmen Aron Chick who grabbed his first save. Chick had four strikeouts while allowing five hits for three runs in his 3.2 innings of work.
The Jaguar bats were on fire this afternoon. Led by senior Cole Thompson, who went 4-5 with two homers – highlighted by a grand slam, and eight RBI, every Jag had at least one hit in game two.
"What a fabulous game by Cole [Thompson]," Coach Eller spoke about his senior catcher. "He came up in some big moments with some big swings at the right time. He's having a great season and he really had a monster day for the Jaguars."
Seniors Connor Gilbert (1-2; 2-RBI; 2-BB), Cole Thompson, and Nick Rau (2-5), junior Jamal Cummings (1-4; RBI) and sophomore Jim Wagner (2-5) all smashed doubles, while junior Clint Hardy blasted his third triple of the across two games with the Pacers.
The Jaguars go for the series sweep tomorrow at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m. and live stats and video will be available.
