Box Score 2 Catawba, N.C. – The Augusta University Softball team dropped both games in their double-header with the Catawba Indians in non-conference affairs. The Jags are 0-2 to start the 2020 season while Catawba starts off the year at 2-0.
In the first game Augusta saw success in the middle stanza. Madelyn Libby rocketed a solo shot to left to get the Jags on the board 1-0. Olivia Biles followed that up by driving in a runner later in the inning on an RBI single.
In the fourth inning, Regan Norfleet blasted a home run to deep center to drive in three more and giving the Jaguars a 5-0 lead. Things started to come undone for Augusta after that point.
In the bottom half of the fifth, the Indians erased all but one of the Jags runs with a four-run inning. The deficit was wiped out in the bottom of the sixth. The Indians' comeback was complete, as the teams went to extra innings, with a walk off single.
In the second game of the day, the Jags were down and out early. After a bottom of the first inning that saw Catawba put up a 10 spot, there wasn't much the Jags could do claw back in. Reilly Williams managed to drive in a run in the top of the third inning, but even that was erased by Catawba in the bottom of the stanza.
The Jaguars return to action on Friday, February 7 when they battle North Greenville in Greenville, S.C. Game 1 is set to start at 2:00 p.m. with the finale starting at 4:00 p.m.
